I am thrilled to be able to offer you the second issue of the Secondhand Savvy E-zine, our very own online magazine for secondhand shopping enthusiasts. The emphasis continues to be on offering readers some inside information to the wonderful and often wacky world of secondhand shopping. This issue we take you inside one of the largest antique and collectible shows in Vancouver in our Feature Article, A Day at the Show. You can also find out about other related shows in our Market/Event Listings section. For those of you wanting to sell your own wares, Elaine Chernoff offers some of her expertise in setting up display booths in Creating Displays that Dazzle. Selling at a flea market or antique show may not be your thing; you may prefer to list specific items in our FREE classifieds section called Savvy Marketplace. The process is easy and you can even include a photo of the items you wish to sell. Garage sale season is upon us once again and in Garage Sale Savvy we have outlined some simple, yet effective, steps to creating the perfect garage sale. We have even included some downloadable garage sale signs. Keep in mind that you can also list your upcoming garage sales for FREE in our Garage Sale Listings section. Spring is also a time for cleaning out the old and making room for the new. In Savvy Living we introduce you to The Great Canadian Clothing Exchange where you can have fun exchanging clothes with friends, donate to charity, and also have the extra benefit of cleaning out your closets. While spring-cleaning you might come across some unique items that you think might be of value, why not have us check them out in Vintage Value? For this issue we discuss two Canadian books that were published in the early 1900's and offer some information on a beautiful Salish Basket. In Cents of Style come and meet Karen Green, a busy professional and savvy secondhand shopper who has managed to create a beautiful and serene home through the creative use of "White Space." Karen walks you through her process for creating this style while striking images by photographer Bob Diskin offer a glimpse of how it all looks. Are you thinking about doing some secondhand shopping this weekend? Why not check out In the Neighbourhood and plan to spend a bit of time at 10th and Alma in Vancouver. Here you will find a diverse array of secondhand shops as well as some terrific places to rest your feet while listening to some live music. And last but not least I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped in getting this site and my business off the ground. First and foremost are my family and friends who have stood by me and offered both support and guidance. Next I would like to thank both Rhonda Ganz and Niki Campbell for their creative and technical expertise. Rhonda for her patience and support in helping my business develop a personality through my stationery and promotional material and Niki for her amazing ability to transform my ideas into this incredible Web site. I would also like to thank my fellow classmates and staff members from the BCIT entrepreneur program. It was nice not having to go this alone. Sincerely, |
